UNDERSTANDING BARCODE RECORDS
A search result is a starting point, not the whole story.
A barcode is used to represent an identifier in a form that can be read by a scanner. Product details are stored separately in databases, business systems or retail platforms.
That distinction matters. Scanning a barcode can retrieve information only when the scanning application or connected system knows how to process that number and has access to a corresponding record.
BARKOD.IN lookup checks for a matching public record within its own verification system. The result depends on the records available to that system; it should not be treated as a search of every product database worldwide.
What a match can tell you
- A corresponding public record was returned.
- Product details may be available for review.
- A BARKOD.IN record can be checked further.
What it cannot establish alone
- That a product is genuine or safe.
- That an identifier was issued by GS1.
- That a marketplace will accept the barcode.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Barcode database FAQs
What is a barcode database?
A barcode database connects barcode numbers with product information stored by a particular database. The details available depend on the records and data sources that database maintains.
Can I search any barcode in BARKOD.IN?
You can submit a barcode number through our lookup tool to check for a matching public BARKOD.IN product record. A search does not guarantee that every barcode worldwide will be found.
What does 'no matching record' mean?
It means the lookup did not return a matching public record. The product may be unregistered in this database, or its information may not be publicly available. It does not, by itself, prove that the barcode is invalid or fraudulent.
Does a matching record prove that a product is genuine?
No. A matching record shows that corresponding information exists in the database. It does not independently prove product authenticity, quality, safety, regulatory compliance or ownership.
Does BARKOD.IN provide GS1-issued GTINs?
BARKOD.IN does not represent its allocated barcode numbers as identifiers issued by GS1 India or another GS1 member organisation. If your retailer, marketplace or supply chain requires GS1-issued GTINs, obtain them from the relevant GS1 organisation.
Will a barcode found here be accepted by Amazon or Flipkart?
A search result or BARKOD.IN verification is not a guarantee of marketplace acceptance. Each marketplace may apply its own identifier, seller, category and listing requirements. Check the current requirements of the platform where you intend to sell.
